Hugh Baird College recognised with LGBT+ Award for creating a safe and supportive environment
Hugh Baird College and University Centre are proud to announce that they have been awarded the full Rainbow Flag Award in recognition of their LGBT+ inclusion work.
The Rainbow Flag Award is a national quality assurance framework for educational providers. The award focuses on positive LGBT+ inclusion and visibility.
To receive the award, the College was required to provide evidence of its work in six crucial areas: skilled teachers, supportive parents and governors, effective policies, an inclusive curriculum, pastoral support, and student voice.
Recent examples of the College's LGBT+ inclusion efforts include the addition of LGBT+ awareness sessions, the celebration of LGBT+ events and the provision of pastoral care for LGBT+ students through the College’s student support team.
Janine Hopewell, Hugh Baird College Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, said:
We are truly humbled to have attained the Rainbow Flag Award through The Proud Trust.
The journey has helped our College create a dynamic environment that celebrates LGBT+ inclusion and visibility.
However, our work continues as we strive to maintain a safe and happy environment for everyone who works and studies at Hugh Baird College.
A Hugh Baird College student said:
As an LGBT+ student, I feel that the College is doing everything to ensure we feel celebrated and safe to be ourselves.
