Finance and Funding for Adults

A lack of money or finance shouldn’t be a barrier to learning or your success - we are here to support you. For those applying to College who are aged 19 or over, there are opportunities to help you reduce or fully support your costs.

Free Course Eligibility

To be eligible to study a course for free will depend on your personal circumstances, where you live and the course you are applying for.

Entry and Level 1 courses will be FREE if you live in the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral) and:

  • Are unemployed and in receipt of a state benefit;
  • Earn less than £18,525 per year (£1,544 per month); or
  • Are aged 19-23 and have not already achieved a full Level 2 qualification (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade A-C/9-4) and need to study at this level in order to progress to a full Level 2.

_The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority also has some additional flexibilities for programmes at Level 2 or below which may qualify you for a free course. Other conditions also apply.

Level 2 courses may be FREE if you live in the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral) and:

  • Are aged 24 or over, are unemployed and in receipt of a state benefit;
  • Earn less than £18,525 per year (£1,544 per month) †; or
  • Are studying a full Level 2 course, are aged 19-23, and have not already achieved a full Level 2 qualification (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade A-C/9-4).

(A first full Level 2 course includes: 5 GCSEs at grade A*- C, BTEC First Diploma, NVQ Level 2, GNVQ Intermediate.)

† Courses must be a full Level 2 for those aged 19-23.

_The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority also has some additional flexibilities for programmes at Level 2 or below which may qualify you for a free course. Other conditions also apply.

Level 3 courses will be FREE if you live in the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral) and:

  • Are studying a first full Level 3 course, are aged 19-23 and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification (equivalent to 2 A-levels); or
  • Are studying a Lifetime Skills Guarantee course and are either:
    • aged 24 or over and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification (equivalent to 2 A-levels); or
    • aged 19+ and earn less than £18,525 per year (£1,544 per month).

(A first full Level 3 course includes: 2 A-levels at grade A*-E, BTEC National Diploma, BTEC Extended Diploma, BTEC National Certificate, NVQ Level 3, GNVQ Advanced.)

Maths and English courses will be FREE if you live in the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral) and have not yet attained a grade A-C/4-9 in either of these subjects.

The College offers GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications. Following you application, we will help to determine which option is most appropriate to your needs.
